{"id":82441,"date":"2021-09-15T03:28:39","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T02:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=82441"},"modified":"2021-09-15T03:28:39","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T02:28:39","slug":"akwa-ibom-couple-poison-10-year-old-son-blame-him-for-familys-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/15\/akwa-ibom-couple-poison-10-year-old-son-blame-him-for-familys-poverty\/","title":{"rendered":"Akwa Ibom couple poison 10-year-old son, blame him for family\u2019s poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One Akan Umoh, and his wife, Rita, have been arrested by the police for allegedly killing their 10-year-old son, Saviour Umoh on the allegation of witchcraft in Akwa Ibom State.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the deceased, who was accused of being a wizard, was given a poisonous substance to exorcise him, but the victim died.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Relations Officer in the State Police Command, Odiko Macdon, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said Rita, who was the victim\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/05\/akwa-ibom-man-allegedly-cuts-off-his-15-year-old-sons-penis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stepmother<\/a>, accused him of being responsible for the family problems.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read in part, \u201cOn August 29, 2021, around 4.30pm, relying on information received from one Mfon Francis, of Ekpat Iduot village, that one Akan Jimmy Umoh and his wife, Rita Jimmy Umoh, of same address, conspired and poisoned her stepson, Master Savior Jimmy Umoh, a 10-year-old boy, on the allegation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/02\/adamawa-how-we-turn-into-cat-lizard-eat-human-flesh-three-children-confess\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">witchcraft<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDetectives from the Abak division swiftly responded and arrested the duo of Akan and Rita, who are the father and stepmother of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn interrogation, suspects confessed to have administered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/24\/how-suspected-poisonous-meat-sellers-were-arrested-in-imo-federal-polytechnic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poisonous<\/a> concoction called, \u2018Evil Beans\u2019 to the child to remove the witchcraft, which they, according to prophecy, claimed was the cause of their economic misfortune and health challenges, including the poor academic performance of his half siblings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA search in the house revealed a boldly written inscription on the wall by the step-mother, \u2018Saviour is the witch of this house.\u2019 Photographs were taken, while the corpse was removed and deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One Akan Umoh, and his wife, Rita, have been arrested by the police for allegedly killing their 10-year-old son, Saviour Umoh on the allegation of witchcraft in Akwa Ibom State.
