{"id":82830,"date":"2021-09-16T05:35:40","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T04:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=82830"},"modified":"2021-09-16T05:35:40","modified_gmt":"2021-09-16T04:35:40","slug":"cult-threat-missing-student-sister-planned-disappearance-caleb-varsity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/16\/cult-threat-missing-student-sister-planned-disappearance-caleb-varsity\/","title":{"rendered":"Cult threat: Missing student, sister planned disappearance &#8211;  Caleb varsity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, has reacted to reports that 21-year-old student of the institution, Oluwanifemi has gone missing from the school premises after he was reportedly threatened by some suspected cultists.<\/p>\n<p>The school said its internal investigation and information obtained from chats between a missing student and his sister, Stella, showed that the student\u2019s disappearance was planned.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the student\u2019s father, Oni Olajide, had claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/15\/caleb-varsity-student-disappears-after-cult-threat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oluwanifemi, a student of Computer Science at the institution, went missing after he sent disturbing messages to his sister<\/a> on WhatsApp suggesting that cultists were after his life.<\/p>\n<p>The aggrieved father said Oluwanifemi disappeared shortly afterwards, as he accused the varsity of not taking any action.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Deputy Director, Public Relations and Marketing, Dr Elvis Otobo, in a statement disclosed that, \u201cWhatsApp records show that John (Oluwanifemi) and Stella communicated between 15th and 17th August 2021 \u2013 a period that John was supposed to be \u2018missing\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe university is gravely concerned over the fact that Stella never reported the issue of the alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/17\/varsity-suspends-six-students-over-cultism-exam-malpractice-in-rivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cultism<\/a> and\/or threat to John\u2019s life to the school management, parents or the police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to our internal investigation and information obtained from WhatsApp chats between the siblings, we are of the strong conviction that this was a premeditated action, deliberately planned by John and his sister. We do not know what could be their motive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Otobo explained that Oluwanifemi had a detailed chat and discussion with Stella on how he should leave the school premises unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe apparently complied with this instruction, which also specifically asked him to leave his luggage and phone behind, while finding his way out of the campus. We got this information from WhatsApp messages obtained from Stella\u2019s phone. It was also this chat that first mentioned the issue of \u2018cult.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to allegation that the school refused to paste the victim\u2019s photo on the campus, Otobo said, \u201cThe university management pasted John\u2019s picture in various strategic locations within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/23\/unijos-employs-hunters-to-protect-students-on-campus-hostels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campus<\/a> to help in getting relevant information. It was the university that gave an electronic copy of John\u2019s photograph to his father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe management reported the matter promptly at the Imota Divisional Police Station with the sole objective of getting to the root of this matter, and bringing our student back promptly and safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that; \u201cThe Divisional Police Officer personally visited the university on August 22, for preliminary investigation. This led to another visit on August 23 with a team of police officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn August 25, Area N invited officials of the school and they responded swiftly to the invitation. The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Yaba, where both parties were invited and interrogated on August 27, 2021, and requested to come back on August 30.
