{"id":83281,"date":"2021-09-17T06:44:54","date_gmt":"2021-09-17T05:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=83281"},"modified":"2021-09-17T06:44:54","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T05:44:54","slug":"matawalle-reveals-why-zamfara-backed-out-of-dialogue-with-bandits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/17\/matawalle-reveals-why-zamfara-backed-out-of-dialogue-with-bandits\/","title":{"rendered":"Matawalle reveals why Zamfara backed out of dialogue with bandits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Zamfara, Bello Matawalle has revealed why the state government backed out of dialogue with bandits.<\/p>\n<p>According to the governor, the state reversed the decision to dialogue with bandits because the government was deceived.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that Zamfara governor, Matawalle had previously said dialogue is the best option to tackle banditry in the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He had also asked his colleagues to endeavour to negotiate with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/14\/kaduna-bandits-kill-couple-10-others-in-fresh-zangon-kataf-attack\/\">bandits<\/a> in the interest of promoting peace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The governor while attending a Juma&#8217;at service on September 10 had also disclosed that the state will no longer offer amnesty to repentant bandits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Speaking on Thursday while fielding questions from state house correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, held at the presidential villa in Abuja, Matawalle said the state now enjoys relative peace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said the state government remains committed in the fight against banditry, adding that the measures put in place to restore peace have yielded results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThey have deceived us. Some of them did not follow what we agreed with them. We thought it was something we could continue with them, but we later realised that they had deceived us. So, we had to back out of it and decide to fight them to a logical conclusion,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAs you know, we are there fighting and we have taken a lot of measures in order to curtail this problem of insurgency. We thank God it\u2019s yielding a lot of results. We\u2019ve recorded a lot of successes from what we have done.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAs you are aware, we have a lot of security personnel that were deployed to Zamfara state and they are working seriously.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On the current situation in the state, Matawalle said there is calm and people are going on with their daily activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt\u2019s just that we have cut a lot of things, particularly moving of foodstuffs, animals and selling of petroleum products,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe have imposed a lot of measures and the people are happy with the measures, because the people had suffered a lot; people were being killed and kidnapped every day before, but today we have succeeded.
