{"id":84341,"date":"2021-09-20T06:40:18","date_gmt":"2021-09-20T05:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=84341"},"modified":"2021-09-20T06:40:18","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T05:40:18","slug":"ngige-begs-resident-doctors-asks-them-to-resume-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/20\/ngige-begs-resident-doctors-asks-them-to-resume-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Ngige begs resident doctors, asks them to resume work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of labour and productivity, Chris Ngige has begged striking resident doctors to resume work.<\/p>\n<p>This appeal was made by the labour minister while speaking on Sunday during an interview on Channels Television.<\/p>\n<p>Ngige said the resident doctors should come for discussions after they return to work.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that on\u00a0August 2, the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) embarked on strike over \u201cirregular payment of salaries\u201d, among other issues.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts of different stakeholders, including President Muhammadu Buhari and the house of representatives, to ensure the resident doctors shelve the strike did not yield the desired result.<\/p>\n<p>The National Industrial Court on Friday in a ruling by\u00a0Bashir Alkali, had asked the resident doctors to return to work.<\/p>\n<p>But the court&#8217;s ruling waa faulted by the striking doctors and they vowed to appeal the order.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the development, Ngige described the decision of the resident doctors to continue the strike despite the court order as \u201ccontemptuous\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The labour minister said he is determined to protect the profession from being \u201cvandalised\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to appeal to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/17\/doctors-strike-no-agreement-with-nard-fg-tells-court\/\">NARD<\/a> for them to reconsider their position, get back to work tomorrow or next and then come back again for discussions. We have so many things to discuss,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have nephews who are resident doctors. I have three of them in the east \u2014 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching hospital, UNTH Enugu, Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu. I have so many of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have my son \u2014 a house officer. I have my daughter who is joining housemanship in October. I have a son, God willing, who is going to graduate again in October.
