{"id":84504,"date":"2021-09-20T13:28:07","date_gmt":"2021-09-20T12:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=84504"},"modified":"2021-09-20T13:29:21","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T12:29:21","slug":"my-husband-beats-me-for-eating-too-much-divorce-seeking-woman-tells-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/20\/my-husband-beats-me-for-eating-too-much-divorce-seeking-woman-tells-court\/","title":{"rendered":"My husband beats me for eating too much \u2013 Divorce-seeking woman tells court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Firdausi Suleiman, 23, on Monday dragged her husband, Haruna Haruna, before a Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking divorce on grounds that he beats her and says she eats too much.<\/p>\n<p>In her petition, Suleiman, who lives in Rigasa in Kaduna, also told the court that her husband, Haruna, locks up the kitchen in the night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIn our seven years of marriage, I have not spent a complete year without him sending me back to my parent\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was forced into marrying Haruna when I was 16 by my father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dHe banned me from receiving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/22\/man-faces-15-years-in-prison-for-killing-his-mother-and-sharing-her-body-to-dog\/\">visitors<\/a> in our marital house. He also beats me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWhen I got fed up, my parents got to know about what I have going through and reported the matter to his mother, His mother told me that he was possessed by an evil spirit,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She prayed the court to terminate the marriage and give her custody of their daughter.<\/p>\n<p>In his defence, Haruna, a civil engineer through his counsel, M. K Mustapha, said his client is mentally okay and is not possessed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dMy client doesn\u2019t look like someone who has evil spirits or has mental problems.
