{"id":86788,"date":"2021-09-27T08:11:14","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T07:11:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=86788"},"modified":"2021-09-27T08:21:53","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T07:21:53","slug":"police-caution-banks-against-false-robbery-threats-in-ogun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/27\/police-caution-banks-against-false-robbery-threats-in-ogun\/","title":{"rendered":"Police caution banks against false robbery threats in Ogun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in Ogun have cautioned banks and other financial institutions in Ijebu-Ode and its environs that it would not tolerate any false robbery alarms in the state.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the police public relations officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to the PPRO, the Ogun command had noticed unwarranted closure of banks and financial institutions in Ijebu-Ode and its environs due to alleged robbery threat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said the closure has affected residents of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe command is appalled at this unprofessional behaviour of bankers in that axis despite continuous assurance of their safety by the police and other security agencies,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cTheir recent action can only be described as treacherous and mischievous, as they are not the only bankers in the state and the country at large, yet they are the ones complaining of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/21\/police-kill-armed-robbery-gang-leader-in-imo\/\">robbery<\/a> threat every now and then.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe command has noticed that once they are bent on this mischief, they close their minds and eyes to other security arrangements put in place by the police in conjunction with other security agencies to protect them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Oyeyemi said the banks claimed that armed robbers wrote to notify them of a planned attack, but the banks did not make the letter available to the police for investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt is bad that from time to time, the banks cried wolf, carelessly and recklessly, and in none of these numerous occasions has any robbery taken place,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said the bankers could expose banks in the vicinity to security threats by making public \u201creal and imaginary\u201d security lapses, rather than quietly discussing them with security agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe command, therefore, wishes to warn that the bankers would surely be the first set of suspects if anything unusual in the form of bank robbery (God forbid) happens in the area, at least for them to disclose their ceaseless sources of information,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cMeanwhile, the commissioner of police<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Edward Ajogun, has directed a full scale investigation into this current claim of receiving a letter from armed robbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe reaffirmed that the police are doing everything within the ambit of the law to guarantee the safety of lives and property of people in Ogun State, the banks and others financial institutions inclusive.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police in Ogun have cautioned banks and other financial institutions in Ijebu-Ode and its environs that it would not tolerate any false robbery alarms in the state.
