{"id":87141,"date":"2021-09-28T05:22:55","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T04:22:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=87141"},"modified":"2021-09-28T05:22:55","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T04:22:55","slug":"4-7m-people-have-received-first-dose-of-covid-vaccine-says-nphcda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/28\/4-7m-people-have-received-first-dose-of-covid-vaccine-says-nphcda\/","title":{"rendered":"4.7m people have received first dose of COVID vaccine, says NPHCDA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has disclosed that a total of 4.7 million people have received the first dose of the COVID vaccine as of September 26.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed on Monday by the NPHCDA executive director, Faisal Shuaib while addressing journalists at a media briefing on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the NPHCDA executive director, out of the total number of the people that have been vaccinated, 1.8 million have received the second jab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur data as of yesterday, 26th September 2021, shows that 4,734,769 eligible people in Nigeria have received their first dose of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/25\/covid-vaccines-administered-in-nigeria-are-certified-says-uk\/\">COVID vaccine<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis comprises 3,040,000 with first dose AstraZeneca and 1,694,769 with the first dose of Moderna.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThis represents 4.2 percent of the 111,776,503 eligible population, who are targeted to receive full doses of the vaccines for Nigeria to reach herd immunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of the total vaccinated, 1,892,092 eligible persons have received their second dose of which 1,825,739 have been fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca while 66,353 eligible persons have been fully vaccinated with Moderna.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also spoke on the concerns raised about the new travel advisory issued by the United Kingdom, and insisted that the vaccines administered in Nigeria are recognised internationally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn September 25th, 2021, the British High Commission, Abuja released a press statement which clearly states that the vaccines administered in Nigeria are recognised and approved by their regulatory body,\u201d Shuaib said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey also clarified that come October 4th, 2021, they would be simplifying their classification process to \u2018red list\u2019 and \u2018rest of the world\u2019. Nigeria would be moving from \u2018amber\u2019 to the \u2018rest of the world\u2019 list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis indicates that the ongoing vaccination exercise in Nigeria is widely recognised.
