Despite being fully vaccinated, a Michigan couple has lost their lives to COVID-19, one minute apart and holding hands.<\/p>\n
The late husband, aged 59, and his wife, aged 66, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, both got the disease earlier in September, before a family camping trip. Both had underlying health conditions.<\/p>\n
Described by their surviving daughter Sarah, the Grand Rapids couple were churchgoing and outdoors enthusiasts who put family first.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe love that they found together after a previous marriage is fantastic,\u201d Sarah told Fox 17. \u201cThey were the people that you just looked at and you were like, \u2018I want to be old like that, I want that love when I\u2019m that age.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c[My dad] called me before our family camping trip and said he wasn\u2019t feeling good but he thinks it\u2019s just like sinus, and [Linda] caught it and she\u2019s like, \u2018He gave me his cold,\u2019\u201d Sarah explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe third day they woke me up and said, \u2018We\u2019ve got to go because we don\u2019t feel well.\u2019 So I packed them all up and they left,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
A few days later, the couple was hospitalized and placed on ventilators.<\/p>\n
On Monday, they were taken off life support and were pronounced dead, The New York Post reported. Cal died at 11:07 a.m. and Linda died less than a minute later. Both were noticeably holding hands.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe always joked and said, \u2018Well, you\u2019re going to go before I am, I\u2019ll be right there behind you, I promise.\u2019 And she really was, like she really was right there behind him,\u201d Sarah told Fox 17.<\/p>\n
No vaccines provide 100 percent protection against a virus. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines show about a 95 percent efficacy rate against the coronavirus. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine shows an overall efficacy rate of 77 percent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
