{"id":8918,"date":"2021-03-15T18:35:55","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T17:35:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=8918"},"modified":"2021-03-15T18:35:55","modified_gmt":"2021-03-15T17:35:55","slug":"can-drags-fg-to-court-over-cama-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/15\/can-drags-fg-to-court-over-cama-act\/","title":{"rendered":"CAN drags FG to court over CAMA Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has dragged the Federal Government to court over the controversial Companies and Allied Matters (CAMA) Act 2020 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed on Monday in a statement released by its General Secretary, Joseph Daramola.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/09\/can-president-slams-fg-for-constructing-lokoja-abuja-road-for-15-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAN<\/a> said it is not comfortable with some provisions of CAMA 2020, hence, its decision to challenge the matter in court.<\/p>\n<p>The Christian Organisation added that all attempts to convince the Federal Government not to intervene or interfere with the management of the Church in Nigeria through any of its agencies failed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the case was mentioned at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday with the suit No FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/244\/2021 between the Incorporated Trustees of Christian Association of Nigeria; and the Corporate Affairs Commission as well as the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment was filed before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/10\/efcc-chairman-testifies-in-court-over-alleged-n1-4bn-subsidy-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal High Court<\/a>, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Association resolved to go to court after all attempts to convince the Federal government why it should not intervene or interfere with the management of the Church in the country through any of its agencies failed,\u201d the statement partly read.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had on August 7, 2020, signed into law, the Companies and Allied Matters Bill, 2020.
