The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos has disclosed that it will start mandating drivers to show their licence on Monday.<\/p>\n

Corps commander in the state, Olusegun Ogungbemide said the operation will end on October 10.<\/p>\n

According to Ogungbemide, a situation where drivers would be plying the road without a licence was no more acceptable.<\/p>\n

The sector commander decried the high rate of permanent driver\u2019s licences unpicked in the state<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first phase of the special patrol tagged \u2018Operation Show your driver\u2019s licence\u2019 showed that some motorists<\/a> still drive without their valid driver\u2019s licence while some don\u2019t have at all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the recent increase in vehicular movements as a result of the ember months, there is the need for all drivers to be handy with their driver\u2019s licences.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exercise will ensure all drivers have valid vehicle papers as the command begins \u2018Operation Show Your Driver\u2019s Licence and Vehicle licence\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ogungbemide said all vehicles impounded would not be released until the drivers had shown evidence of having the necessary documents.<\/p>\n

The state commander said according to the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR) 2021, Regulation 67(1), any person driving a vehicle on any public road shall be in possession of an original driver\u2019s licence.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegulation (2) also stated that any person who contravenes the provision of regulation 67(1) commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of #10,000 or to a term of one year imprisonment or to both,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor motorists who drive without vehicle licences, Regulation 67(3) states that any person driving a vehicle must be in possession of at least the photocopy of the vehicle particulars.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe original shall be provided to the appropriate authority within 24 hours if demanded.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegulations 67(4) says any person who contravenes the provisions of regulation 67(3) commits an offence and shall be liable to a fine of #3,000 or six months imprisonment or to both.\u201d<\/p>\n
