{"id":8939,"date":"2021-03-15T19:56:56","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T18:56:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=8939"},"modified":"2021-03-15T19:56:56","modified_gmt":"2021-03-15T18:56:56","slug":"nafdac-investigates-cause-of-strange-disease-among-kano-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/15\/nafdac-investigates-cause-of-strange-disease-among-kano-residents\/","title":{"rendered":"NAFDAC investigates cause of strange disease among Kano residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control says it is investigating cause of severe vomiting and blood-in-urine among Kano residents.<\/p>\n<p>The agency said the victims manifested the symptoms after consuming suspected sachet water and local drink suspected to have been prepared with expired and adulterated products.<\/p>\n<p>NAFDAC disclosed that it has collected water samples and flavour products for laboratory analysis, following the outbreak of the yet-to-be ascertained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/12\/sanwo-olu-receives-covid-19-vaccine-debunks-side-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infectious disease<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Kano state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/15\/nafdac-raises-alarm-on-fake-covid19-vaccines-in-circulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NAFDAC<\/a> coordinator, Shaba Muhammad, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday that the samples had been referred to its laboratory in Kaduna for analysis.<\/p>\n<p>According to Muhammad, a team of officials of the agency had visited the infected persons at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Kano, as well as some of the affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReports indicated that the infection involves sachet water and local drinks suspected to have been prepared with expired and adulterated products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe collected samples of the suspected water and the products for analysis to establish the cause of the disease,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad said that NAFDAC had scaled up surveillance to check circulation of fake and counterfeit products in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged residents to always check labels of products before consumption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control says it is investigating cause of severe vomiting and blood-in-urine among Kano residents.
