{"id":93458,"date":"2021-10-14T18:40:39","date_gmt":"2021-10-14T17:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=93458"},"modified":"2021-10-14T18:42:09","modified_gmt":"2021-10-14T17:42:09","slug":"pdp-announces-iyorchia-ayu-as-consensus-chairmanship-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/14\/pdp-announces-iyorchia-ayu-as-consensus-chairmanship-candidate\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP announces Iyorchia Ayu as consensus chairmanship candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former senate president, Iyorchia Ayu has been adopted as the consensus candidate for the national chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made by Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa state after a stakeholder meeting on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>This is coming barely eight days after\u00a0the national executive committee (NEC) of the party approved the zoning of the national chairmanship position to the north.<\/p>\n<p>According to Adamawa governor,\u00a0Ayu was unanimously chosen among the three candidates vying for the position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no vanquished, there is no victor in this meeting, we all came out united,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of the three northern candidates that all the three zones produced, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/07\/anambra-election-inec-releases-final-list-of-candidates\/\">candidates<\/a> themselves, in the spirit of unity and togetherness, in the spirit of ensuring that PDP emerges and benefits from our efforts so that we can win the 2023 general election, distinguished senator Iyorchia Ayu has emerged as a consensus candidate of the north.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this, we are fully prepared, we are ready. We will be talking with our colleagues from other parts of the country, especially the south, that they see reasons for this consensus candidate and give us support during the convention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/14\/court-restrains-pdp-from-suspending-dan-orbih\/\">PDP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of them were immensely qualified but through discussion and reconciliation, we have emerged with a consensus list that was endorsed by the candidates themselves. There was no election and there was no selection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commenting, Ayu said he will work with party stakeholders to enable the PDP defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe PDP will be back with its winning ways. We will work tirelessly after the convention to rebuild the party to take over power to rebuild the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe all Nigerians missed the PDP government. Our 16 years moved the country forward. We intend to work together with all the leaders, not only in the north, but across the country to reposition this country to the next generation of Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be an all-inclusive administration of the party.
