{"id":95216,"date":"2021-10-18T20:27:29","date_gmt":"2021-10-18T19:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=95216"},"modified":"2021-10-18T20:27:29","modified_gmt":"2021-10-18T19:27:29","slug":"pandora-papers-im-yet-to-receive-letter-from-efcc-says-peter-obi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/18\/pandora-papers-im-yet-to-receive-letter-from-efcc-says-peter-obi\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandora Papers: I\u2019m yet to receive letter from EFCC, says Peter Obi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi has disclosed that he is yet to receive any invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Leaked files, which were reportedly retrieved from 14 offshore service firms around the world and revealed in a Pandora Papers project led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), and which Premium Times is a part of, had shown how the former governor failed to declare assets kept in tax havens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Peter Obi was also said to have been<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0a director of Next International (UK) Limited for 14 months after becoming the governor of Anambra state, thereby breaking section 6 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, which stipulates that public office holders cannot engage in or direct a private business, except if it is farming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Following the release of the report, the EFCC reportedly summoned Obi for questioning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">There were also unconfirmed reports that Obi had responded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/18\/alleged-pid-scam-efcc-re-arraigns-british-national-james-nolan\/\">EFCC<\/a> invitation, and asked the anti-graft agency to make the investigation public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The former governor via a statement released on Monday by his spokesman, Valentine Obienyem denied<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0commenting on the invitation by the EFCC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">Obienyem, Obi is yet to receive the letter from the EFCC.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFrom what is circulating, the letter appears to have been sent to an office he is no longer part of and is yet to reach him,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cObi, being a law-abiding Nigerian, will honour all legitimate invitations from government agencies at all times.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi has disclosed that he is yet to receive any invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
