Lagos commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotosho has disclosed that the state government did not stop Landmark Event Centre from hosting the #EndSARSMemorial summit.<\/p>\n

Recall that the social media comedian, Mr. Macaroni lastweek had announced that there would be an event on October 20 to mark the anniversary of the shooting of protesters at the Lekki tollgate.<\/p>\n

Landmark was announced as the venue for the event themed the \u2018Soro Soke Summit\u2019.<\/p>\n

Days after the announcement, the comedian revealed that the\u00a0event had been sabotaged.<\/p>\n

He said the venue had cancelled arrangements, adding that \u201cpowers from above\u201d had warned them against hosting the event.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the accusation in a chat with Arise TV on Tuesday, Omotosho said \u201cit\u2019s very wrong\u201d to say the state government is involved.<\/p>\n

He narrated how Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos<\/a>, called \u201cthe owner of the centre\u201d and it was established that the summit was cancelled based on \u201cpurely business decision\u201d.<\/p>\n

Omotosho said \u201csome of these #EndSARS people\u201d approached the governor to report the cancellation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would not want to mention their names, but I know them, and they\u2019re some of the guys you all know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they said Landmark stopped them and returned their money. The governor called the owner of the centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was listening and put the phone on speaker, and he said, \u2018Mr, Paul, when last did I talk to you?\u2019 And the guy said, \u2018several months ago\u2019. Then the governor said, \u2018have I ever discussed with you that some people are coming to your place and you should stop them from doing whatever they want to do there?\u2019 And the man said, \u2018no\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe governor now asked, \u2018then, why did you stop them and why are they saying the government told you to stop them?\u2019 And the man said, \u2018we don\u2019t know who is saying that government stopped us from allowing them, but the government has nothing to do with this, and it\u2019s a pure business decision that we took to safeguard our customer, property because we don\u2019t know where this could end, like what happened last October\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commissioner added that it is \u201cvery wrong for anybody to assert that the Lagos state government stopped Landmark or any other event centre from allowing protesters to do whatever they want to do in their facilities\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
