{"id":96288,"date":"2021-10-21T12:12:42","date_gmt":"2021-10-21T11:12:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=96288"},"modified":"2021-10-21T12:12:42","modified_gmt":"2021-10-21T11:12:42","slug":"pro-biafra-group-demands-open-trial-of-ipob-leader-nnamdi-kanu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/21\/pro-biafra-group-demands-open-trial-of-ipob-leader-nnamdi-kanu\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro-Biafra group demands open trial of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pro-Biafra group identified as Indigenous Biafra Warriors has called on the federal government to\u00a0ensure an open trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in court today, Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu will be\u00a0arraigned in court today, over an amended 7-count charge bordering on treason.<\/p>\n<p>The leader of the Indigenous Biafra Warriors, Mr Ndubuisi Igwekala while addressing journalists late Wednesday night said secret trial of the IPOB leader would send the wrong signal.<\/p>\n<p>Agu, who is a founding member of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, said Kanu remained a freedom fighter and not a criminal as the government would make people believe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday is the d-day; we are expecting and hopeful that the government will do nothing but the right thing. And the right thing is that Kanu should be arraigned today in an open court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the time for anyone to talk about a secret trial of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/21\/biafra-tension-in-southeast-as-trial-of-ipob-leader-nnamdi-kanu-resumes-today\/\">Biafra<\/a> fighter. We have seen the amended charges against him and we all know that it is all about giving a dog a bad name to hang it,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Agu advised the Federal Government to go ahead and release Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally, stressing that \u201che is only an agitator and the Federal Government knows that. This is the only way to douse the tension in the South-East unless they want to escalate it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this moment, I call on all our people to remain calm until after today; we are optimistic that everything will go well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe advise all our people to stay cool so that security agencies don\u2019t see any reason to harass anyone. We shall talk again after today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the developments in Imo State, the pro-Biafra leader re-echoed his stand that Ndigbo were not behind the mayhem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is happening in Imo State is strange and I\u2019m sure Biafrans are not responsible. What is happening in Imo State is not happening in Enugu State, it is not happening in Anambra State, it is not happening in Abia State, why is it happening in the two APC states?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo Igbo man will go and open fire on traditional rulers.
