{"id":96453,"date":"2021-10-21T18:18:55","date_gmt":"2021-10-21T17:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=96453"},"modified":"2021-10-21T18:18:55","modified_gmt":"2021-10-21T17:18:55","slug":"frsc-unveils-body-cameras-for-patrol-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/21\/frsc-unveils-body-cameras-for-patrol-operations\/","title":{"rendered":"FRSC unveils body cameras for patrol operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially commenced the use of body cameras for its personnel across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The body cameras were unveiled on Thursday, at an event held in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>FRSC corps marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi while speaking at the event said\u00a0the operation monitoring and control platform which was also unveiled alongside the body cameras will contribute significantly to improving the agency\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"51\">\n<p>\u201cThis platform will embrace the ethical imperatives of eliminating misconducts both on the part of the operatives and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/31\/alert-frsc-asks-motorists-to-avoid-lokoja-kabba-highway\/\">motorists<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will considerably reduce the incentive to infringe on traffic laws and regulations due to perceived weak enforcement and likelihood of escaping arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will assist to improve on road safety management generally with better personnel disposition, among others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FRSC boss added that the agency recorded the highest cases of assaults on its personnel in 2019, but has not recorded such since the test-running of the platform began in parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the implementation of the platform would be in phases, adding that the agency has a target of three years for all its patrol teams nationwide to start using body cameras.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is phase one which is in FCT, Abuja. Cameras will be deployed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/20\/lagos-communities-to-experience-6-hours-power-outage-ekedc\/\">Lagos<\/a> and Asaba for end-of-the-year patrol operations as well. This will also help to control the behaviour of officers and conduct of the public, \u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Nnamdi Mbaeri, permanent secretary, general services offices, who represented Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, said the development will strengthen road safety management.<\/p>\n<p>According to NAN, Mbaeri commended the agency for the achievement, and said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration remains committed to improving the transport sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is therefore my hope that today\u2019s inauguration of operations monitoring and control platform and deployment of the body cameras will improve the quality of road safety management approach in Nigeria,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially commenced the use of body cameras for its personnel across the country.
