Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde has disclosed that somw high-profile criminal suspects were being detained at the Abolongo medium custodial centre in the state.<\/p>\n

Recall that the custodial centre<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in Oyo town was attacked on Friday night by gunmen who killed some security operatives and freed over 500 inmates.<\/p>\n

Makinde while speaking on Sunday when he visited the\u00a0correctional centre alongside Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, the governor said there is an ongoing investigation on the incident.<\/p>\n

Makinde, however, did not reveal the identity of the suspects, neither did he say if they were among the escaped inmates.<\/p>\n

There are rumours flying around that a suspected serial killer, Sunday Shodipe and A Fulani warlord in Ibarapa area of the state, Iskilu Wakilu\u00a0were being held in the centre.<\/p>\n

As at the time of reportage, these informations flying around as rumours have not been independently verified by WITHIN NIGERIA.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout the high-profile suspects here, people are very quick to start talking about conspiracy theories. What I can say is that the investigation is still on. Yes, there were high profile criminals that were held in this facility<\/a>,\u201d Makinde said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, I will appeal that our people should be calm. We have challenges around the country \u2013 banditry, insurgency and terrorism. And we can only deal with those issues when we have the people in alignment with what the leadership is trying to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aregbesola announced during the visit that out of the 837 inmates that escaped, 446 have been recaptured while 392 are still\u00a0at large.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
