{"id":97832,"date":"2021-10-25T15:09:12","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T14:09:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=97832"},"modified":"2021-10-25T15:09:12","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T14:09:12","slug":"ifeanyi-ubah-reveals-why-hes-seeking-court-order-to-visit-nnamdi-kanu-in-detention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/25\/ifeanyi-ubah-reveals-why-hes-seeking-court-order-to-visit-nnamdi-kanu-in-detention\/","title":{"rendered":"Ifeanyi Ubah reveals why he&#8217;s seeking court order to visit Nnamdi Kanu in detention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senator representing Anambra south, Ifeanyi Ubah has revealed why he&#8217;s seeking a court order to visit Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in detention.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the senator through Agugoesi Ikem, his counsel, had filed a motion on October 15 to visit Kanu in DSS custody.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order of this honourable court granting leave to Sen. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/18\/ifeanyi-ubah-seeks-courts-permission-to-visit-nnamdi-kanu-in-dss-custody\/\">Ifeanyi Ubah<\/a><\/strong> to visit the defendant, Nnamdi Kanu, as part of his legislative oversight function,\u201d the notice had read.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with Arise TV on Monday, Ubah said his goal was to engage the IPOB leader to \u201cget him to talk to his people\u201d about their stand on the Anambra governorship election.<\/p>\n<p>The proscribed group had threatened\u00a0to lock down the south-east if Kanu is not released from detention by November 4.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed sit-at-home protest would affect the Anambra governorship election which is billed for November 6.<\/p>\n<p>Ubah, who is the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the election, said, \u201cIPOB is a very big force,\u201d adding that he hopes to persuade them \u201cto look into the issue\u201d because boycotting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/22\/without-restructuring-2023-elections-may-be-disrupted-nwodo\/\">election<\/a> \u201cdoesn\u2019t really help our people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou must understand that Nnamdi Kanu has a lot of followership in the south-east. So, the government should take him seriously. But we are engaging and finding political solutions to this issue. We are engaging with IPOB and showing them the importance of this election. The most important thing is that the election is constitutional, and I\u2019m also very much sure that on the day of the election, there would be a peaceful election in Anambra state,\u201d the senator said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m the only politician that\u2019s working hard to see the reader of the indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, so that I can also have the opportunity of talking to him and get him to talk to his people to look into the issue. Because the election is constitutional, and if really anybody loves our people, they shouldn\u2019t be saying there\u2019ll be no election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t really help our people. If there\u2019s no election, there will be voters apathy, and somebody might come in and then do something that might not augur well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIPOB is a very big force because most of them are not even in Nigeria. And they have their way with the media, and people are listening to them.
