{"id":99498,"date":"2021-10-29T03:24:51","date_gmt":"2021-10-29T02:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=99498"},"modified":"2021-10-29T03:24:51","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T02:24:51","slug":"islamic-cleric-and-father-jailed-for-exhuming-childhood-friends-corpse-for-ritual-in-kwara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/29\/islamic-cleric-and-father-jailed-for-exhuming-childhood-friends-corpse-for-ritual-in-kwara\/","title":{"rendered":"Islamic cleric and father jailed for exhuming childhood friend&#8217;s corpse for ritual in Kwara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Islamic cleric Olaitan Folorunsho Abdulwahab and his father, Suleiman Babatunde Olaitan, have been sentenced to jail over possession of human parts in Ilorin, Kwara State.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that Olaitan Folorunsho Abdulwahab <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/25\/body-of-kenyan-man-exhumed-after-be-was-buried-by-his-lover-without-wifes-knowledge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exhumed<\/a> the corpse of his childhood friend, Suleiman Saka, for ritual purposes on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, seven days after his death.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was said to have gone out with the cleric and had complained of stomach ache not long after they returned. He died in a hospital the following day and was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/20\/how-newborn-baby-miraculously-survived-24-hours-after-mother-buried-her-in-shallow-grave-in-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">buried<\/a> the same day in accordance with Islamic rite.<\/p>\n<p>The presiding Magistrate, Bio Saliu, sentenced Abdulwahab to four years imprisonment while the father bagged four months and three thousand naira fine. The sentence is to run concurrently.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_99500\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99500\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-99500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/10\/kunlenet07\/2021\/10\/29\/Olaitan-Folorunsho-Abdulwahab.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"955\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/10\/kunlenet07\/2021\/10\/29\/Olaitan-Folorunsho-Abdulwahab.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/10\/kunlenet07\/2021\/10\/29\/Olaitan-Folorunsho-Abdulwahab-251x300.jpg 251w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/10\/kunlenet07\/2021\/10\/29\/Olaitan-Folorunsho-Abdulwahab-768x917.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-99500\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Olaitan Folorunsho Abdulwahab<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Father and son were dragged before Magistrate Bio Saliu for Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Trespass and Unlawful Possession of Human Parts contrary to Sections 97, 342, 219 of Penal Code.<\/p>\n<p>The First Information Report (FIR) of the case said one Alhaji Aliyu Baba Alapa of Onilu compound, Oloje, Ilorin reported the matter at \u2018G\u2019 Division Police Station.<\/p>\n<p>The complainant was said to have received the information that the grave of his son, Suleiman Saka, at their family compound in Oloje was excavated and the corpse, exhumed.<\/p>\n<p>The offensive odour of the dismembered body of Saka from the house where it was kept attracted attention of members of the community who mobilised and conducted a search on the building.<\/p>\n<p>Human head, two hands and two legs of the deceased kept in a plastic bucket and hidden inside the roof were reportedly recovered from the building.<\/p>\n<p>Abdulwahab, Oladimeji, Jelili and Waidi of various addresses were said to have made away with the remaining parts of deceased\u2019s body in a Honda Accord vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Olaitan, among other defendants who ran away after the incident, was rearrested in Ajuwon, Ogun State.<\/p>\n<p>He was said to have confessed to have conspired with other defendants to carry out the act.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants have since their arrest in 2018, been remanded in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/24\/update-dismissed-police-officer-who-allegedly-killed-18-year-old-admission-seeker-remanded-in-prison-custody\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prison custody<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Islamic cleric Olaitan Folorunsho Abdulwahab and his father, Suleiman Babatunde Olaitan, have been sentenced to jail over possession of human parts in Ilorin, Kwara State.
