Aliko Dangote’s company begins automobile assembly in Nigeria

Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigerian limited (DPAN), partly owned by Africa’a richest man Aliko Dangote, has begun the assembling of vehicles in Nigeria. This means Peugeot vehicles will now be assembled in Nigeria nearly four years after joint owners Dangote Group secured authorization from the Nigerian regulator following prior expressions of interest in the old Peugeot facility, now known as PAN Nigeria Ltd. The company has started the assembly of the land trek, 3008, 5008 and the new 508.

According to the Nigerian automobile company, the newly constructed Green Field Assembly Plant in the country’s northern region is capable of producing 120 automobiles per day in two shifts. Additionally, the management stated that the vehicles to be released are expected to demonstrate their exceptional looks, technological sophistication, and safety features in order to appeal to customers and the motoring public.

The company noted that it is not unmindful of the reality that it is re-launching the roaring lion brand amidst socio-economic challenges, steep competition, cheaper and sometimes sub-standard Asian models as well as COVID-19 realities.

Vehicles to be introduced in the local market between now and 2023 include the Landtrek, 3008, 5008 and the new 508, which are expected to flaunt their outstanding aesthetics, rich technological endowment and safety features to appeal to the customers and the motoring public.

This is another milestone for the African billionaire in less than a month since the new year began. A few weeks ago, the billionaire announced that his refinery will begin crude oil refining and processing operations by the end of Q3 2022.

The refinery’s pipeline infrastructure is billed as the largest in the world, with a processing capacity of 540,000 barrels per day in the first phase of operation, increasing to 650,000 barrels per day later.

Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigerian limited (DPAN) is jointly owned by Stellantis Group, the parent company of Peugeot, the Kano and Kaduna state government and Nigerian billionaire, Aliko Dangote through one of his subsidiaries Dangote Industries Limited. Stellantis Group is a multinational automotive manufacturing corporation formed in 2021 by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French PSA Group.
