<\/a>Overview of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was established on 22 May 1973 by the Nigerian government under General Yakubu Gowon. The goal was to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil War.<\/p>\n

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a one-year mandatory service program for Nigerian graduates. The goal of NYSC is to promote national unity and integration. As a graduate, you’ll be deployed to a state outside your ethnic group for the mandatory one-year service.<\/p>\n

During your service year, you’ll work in both urban and rural communities. You may teach, work in a hospital, or serve in a government ministry. This exposes you to the diversity of cultures in Nigeria and allows you to make a meaningful contribution to communities in need.<\/p>\n

To be mobilized for NYSC, you need to have completed your first degree and be under 30 years of age. You’ll go through orientation camp, usually 3 weeks long, to prepare you for your primary assignment. At the end of your service year, you receive a discharge certificate which allows you to pursue further education or employment.<\/p>\n

The NYSC program is an opportunity to build connections across ethnic groups, gain work experience, and support communities across Nigeria. <\/a>The Role of NYSC State Secretariats<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The NYSC state secretariats play important roles in the National Youth Service Corps scheme. Their main functions include:<\/p>\n

<\/a>Coordination<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The state secretariats coordinate the activities of NYSC at the state level. They implement policies and programs formulated at the national directorate and ensure smooth running of the scheme in their states.<\/p>\n

When you first report for NYSC orientation camp, you will register at your state’s NYSC Secretariat. They will review your documents, take your fingerprints and photograph, and officially register you as an NYSC corps member.
