Against the backdrop of long standing pension arrears in Enugu state, Forum of Local Government and Primary school Pensioners in Enugu State (FLGPSP) has urged God to intervene and touch Enugu State Government’s heart to pay them many months of persion arrears
This was contained in a statement issued in Nsukka on Tuesday signed by Mr Patrick Agbo and Mr George Ugwu coordinator and Secretary of Nsukka zone forum respectively.
The forum said copy of the statement had been given to all Catholic and Anglican bishops in Enugu State for them to help pray for God immediate intervention.
The statement said some members of the Forum were being owed arrears of pension and gratuity since 2000 till date.
According to them, members are dying in agony at extinction rate due to non-payment of statutory arrears and gratuities.
“Many members who started this struggle with us have died as result of suffering and hardship.
“Those of us alive, our children can no longer go to school because we are unable to pay their school fees.
“Our family members now treat us with disrespect because we can’t take care of our family responsibilities,”the statement said.
The statement urged Enugu State Government to do the needful by paying them arrears of pension and gratuities since the pensioners have done all the necessary verifications.
The pensioners expressed concern that in spite the fact that every local governments remits their own money to Local Government pension board in Enugu State State.
They wondered why they were being owed many months of pension arrears.
“As at now we are owned 19 months of pension arrears and 16 years of gratuity,”the statement said.
The statement expressed disappointment on Comrade Godwin Abumisi, the National President, Nigeria Union of Pensioners who is from Enugu State for describing Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as labour friendly governor on June 30, 2022.
“Abumisi is aware of our predicament in the state but feel unconcerned, we are telling him that God will fight our battle,.
“Primary school pensioners in the state see the national president action as unfortunate and man inhumanity to man,” the statement added.
