Alleged kidnap: Dino Melaye reportedly told his family members of his plans

Senator Dino Melaye’s reported kidnap may have been a hoax as according to Sahara Reporters, the Kogi lawmaker told his relatives and some senators that he merely walked into the bush to avoid appearing before a court in Kogi.

Senator Ben Murray Bruce had tweeted on Thursday, July 26 that he was informed by Melaye’s brother that he was kidnapped while they were on their way to Kogi where he was due to appear in court.

On Friday, July 27 however, Melaye tweeted that he had just been freed after spending 11 hours in the wilderness and thanked Nigerians for their prayers.

” I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love. Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom ONLY I trust. They will continue to try. WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!”, he wrote.

According to Sahara Reporters, Melaye was not kidnapped but “only staged a walk into a bush to avoid being charged to court.”

Meanwhile, Senator Dino Melaye has presented a picture of a hand written statement his brother allegedly submitted to the police to inform the police of the senator’s alleged abduction which happened on Thursday, July 27.

Melaye shared the picture to debunk a claim by the police that the senator’s brother did not report his abduction.
