4 Reasons Why some people think money can’t make you happy

When you think about the usefulness of money, you’ll most likely conclude that money can solve all problems and give us everything we want in life.

With money, there is no room for financial stress because only a lack of money or not having enough of it makes us feel extremely stressed.

This is the positive view most people have about money. However,  some people believe there are things money cannot buy and happiness is one of them.

They believe having all the money you desire does not guarantee happiness and to authenticate this view about money, here are some of the reasons they think money being rich does not translate to being happy.

1. Money only gives instant happiness

Money can’t buy everything.

Money is good and ever useful but one argument against it is that it only gives instant gratification and once the feeling subsides, you get back to being unhappy.

In other words, if you derive pleasure only when you shop or buy certain items you’ve been longing to get, the happiness will only last for a few moments, and once the feeling expires, you get back you might get back to being unhappy.

2. Discontent

Preventing yourself from overspending is one way to to stop worrying about your finances

Another argument presented on money can’t give happiness narrative is that it drives dissatisfaction.  Happiness comes from being satisfied with what you have no matter how little. But because it’s human nature to always want more and more, it is believed that his quest to have more will only make him unhappy. The more he gets what he wants, the more he asks for more and asking and getting more will only numb his sense of happiness.

3. Money is the root of all evils

This is a popular saying everyone must have heard one way or the other. The saying portrays money as the cause of all evils because it is believed to have caused so many problems.

According to Christina Pimentel, CEO, Founder and Author of ‘My Anxious Life’ ”Money is equalled to Power The more money you have the more power you have and with power comes greed, ego, corruption and more”

4. Money can destroy friendships

You can avoid some unexpected expenses.

Another reason why money is believed to be incompatible with happiness is that it does not mix with friendship. Lending or borrowing from friends can lead to serious consequences and lots of good friends are believed to have destroyed their friendship because of money.

However, those who put these arguments forward might have some points but hey, don’t get it wrong, money plays a very important role in our lives and it is worth running after.

But while you chase money, you don’t have to put other aspects of your life on hold thinking you can only derive happiness in chasing money.
