Osun Youth set police station ablaze after SARS allegedly shot a student dead

Irate youths in Iwo, Osun State, this morning, set ablaze the Iwo police area command office following the death of an undergraduate of the Osun state polytechnic, Tunde Nofiu, who was allegedly shot dead by an officer attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS during the Sallah holiday.

An eyewitness claims that Nafiu and some other persons by the roadside were looking for a motorcycle at Ajangbala area in Iwo town when they were accosted by a triggerhappy SARS officer who fired shots at them yesterday evening Thursday, August 23rd. Nafiu died on the spot.

Nofiu was said to be spending holidays in the town. Our correspondent gathered that the students who was going to Iwo from Olupona was shot dead on Thursday night and the incident led to a protest.

The Commissioner of Police, Fimihan Adeoye, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, added that the circumstance which led to the shooting of the student by the officer was yet to be unraveled.

According to Adeoye, “the four officers on patrol on the night of the incident are currently in detention for further investigation.”

He vowed that if found guilty, the officer(s) will be made to face the wrath of the law.
