Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba put his finger to his lips following recent criticism as he unveiled a pair of commemorative white boots to mark France’s World Cup win.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer due to his rocky relationship with United boss Jose Mourinho and has faced stinging criticism from former midfielder Paul Scholes.

Scholes’ comments were criticised on social media by Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola, but the Frenchman remains at Old Trafford and has been captain of the side in their opening two matches.

Pogba was outstanding for France in the summer as he produced a number of dominant performances to get them to the World Cup final – no surprise then he wants to mark the country’s second triumph with some footwear.

Switching attentions back to his club, United head into Monday night’s match against Tottenham on the back of defeat away to Brighton where Pogba came in for a stinging assessment from Scholes.

‘There’s a lack of leaders in the team,’ Scholes said afterwards. ‘We thought Paul Pogba might be the ideal candidate to be that leader but he wasn’t there today. He had another really poor game. He’s so inconsistent.

‘Pogba’s playing the ball out of play, he’s overhitting passes, he’s hitting passes short, he’s getting caught in possession.’
