ASUU STRIKE: Confusion in OAU as FUTO, LAUTECH, UniOsun shuts down

While members of the university chapter of the union joined the STRIKE, another group of lecturers under the auspices of Congress of Universities  Academics, shunned the exercise.

The Chairman of ASUU, OAU chapter, Dr Adeola Egbedokun, who addressed journalists after the congress, said the strike would be total in adherence to the directive of the national body of the union.

Egbedokun stated that ASUU decided to embark on the indefinite strike in order to compel government to address the funding of public universities.

He said, “We have joined the strike; it is not that we are planning to join. The strike has commenced at the OAU and it is going to be total. We will communicate to our members any development from the national body of our union.”

But their counterparts in the Congress of Universities Academics said they were not part of the ongoing strike.

The Chairman of CONUA,  OAU, Dr Niyi Sunmonu, who spoke in an interview with our correspondent, said members of the union were not part of the strike action.

Sunmonu said, “We are not bound by the ASUU decision; so we are not part of the strike action.  We don’t know anything about the strike called by ASUU; we are not part of them.
