Lubrino said Clara Mbewe, 34, and her two daughters, aged 4 and 8, were killed by the lightning strike while in their kitchen preparing food.

Mbewe’s 10-year-old son survived.

“The boy was rushed to a health centre where he is reportedly battling for his life,’’ the police spokesman said.

In a separate incident, a 41-year-old man was killed by a lightning strike in the same district on Monday police spokesman Kaitano Lubrino told dpa.
