Photos Of People Killed In Post-election Violence In Taraba

It was gathered that the violence sparked off following the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s declaration of Governor Darius Ishaku as the winner of the just-concluded governorship election in the state.

Mr Ishaku was declared the winner of the last Saturday’s governorship election after a fiercely contested exercise with his closest rival Sani Danladi of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

After the announcement, a mixed reaction gripped the state’s atmosphere with some people jubilating and others feeling disappointed over the outcome, a development that triggered violence.

It took the intervention of security agencies and the imposition of a curfew by the state government to bring the situation under control.

However, despite the heavy presence of soldiers and other security operatives, killing and destruction of property continued unabated, our correspondent also observed.

On Tuesday Governor Ishaku had ordered the extension of the dusk to dawn curfew imposed on Jalingo to 24 hours, directing that all security agencies in the state ensure strict enforcement of the curfew.
