Soldiers And Villagers Clash Over Land In Abuja, One Dead, Others Injured

The natives of Tungan Maje, Anagada in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Abuja, took to the streets to protest against what they describe as community annihilation and cleansing.

The protest is coming a day after the Nigeria army shot one dead in the process of protesting forceful acquisition of the community land. The protesting youths said the Nigeria army will have to kill all of them in order to forcefully take over their ancestral land.

A community leader said one of the indigenes, a student, Hamza Usman, was killed at the spot by the soldiers for protesting against the action. He said four other persons were injured and are receiving treatment in a hospital within the area.

He regretted the soldiers had never engaged the community members for a discussion since the disagreement between them started about three years ago.

Female and male indigenes of the town blocked the ever busy Zuba – Gwagwalada road to press home their demand.

The situation became worst as motorists plying the route were held in gridlock for over five hours before the intervention of some stakeholders.
