19-year-old Nigerian student’s painting of Lagbaja becomes 1st African artwork in iconic Cyprus museum

Many Nigerians leave the shores of the country to better themselves and they end up representing Africa well.

A 19-year-old Nigerian medical student, Emediong, has become the youngest artist as well as the first African to have her work displayed at the Cyprus Modern Art Museum which is also the largest museum in the Mediterranean region.

The excited young lady expressed her joy in an Instagram post as she further revealed that her painting is now in the possession of Forbes listed Cypriot businessman, Suat Günsel.

The works at the iconic museum date as far back as 1940 and it is exciting to see that a young Nigerian’s artwork happens to be the first piece by an African at the museum.

Emediong explained in her social media post that she dedicates her painting to iconic faceless singer, Lagbaja, who was also the subject of her artwork. According to Emediong, he inspired a culture and created both war and peace with his passion.
