Meet OAU undergraduate who doubles as a cocoa farmer, wishes to employ his mates after school

Such is the case of Opeyemi, an undergraduate from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), who also doubles as a cocoa farmer.

The young farmer in a post shared on social media expressed that the harsh conditions of job seeking should be enough motivation for Nigerian youths to be drawn towards agriculture, but instead, many see farming as a lost cause.

Opeyemi disclosed that by the time he completes his programme in the university, he hopes to be able to provide employment opportunities for some of his peers.

“The situation of the country should push youths to agriculture but no, they think it’s a lost cause. By the time I graduate, I want to have employment options for my peers here in school. I’m sure they will be thrilled and motivated.” he said.

Speaking on some of his future plans for his business, he stated that he intends to build a farmstead that will serve as a temporary resident for him whenever he comes to the farm, instead of making a daily trip that hinders him from fully focusing on what needs to be done.

He added that he also plans to buy a motor blow pump that will make it easier for him to apply insecticides and growth chemicals.
