Buhari charges vice-chancellors to impact on host communities

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Vice-Chancellors of Nigeria universities to design policies and programmes that will have a direct bearing on host communities.

Speaking at the official commissioning of “President Muhammadu Buhari Kwara State University Library Complex” in Malete, Kwara State on Saturday, the president decried improper use of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) high impact fund on less relevant infrastructures by some universities in the country.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the TETFUND, Professor Suleiman Bogoro, the President said that it was not possible for universities to achieve competitiveness without having a good library.

President Buhari also urged university management to ensure all their projects are of good quality.

In his address, Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was represented by his deputy, Kayode Alabi, thanked President Buhari for his support to the people of the state.

Abdulrazaq, who said that the state government would spend N11.2bn to revamp the education infrastructure, assured that the new administration in the state will support the university to achieve academic excellence.

He also said the new library would assist the institution in aspects of teaching and research.

Earlier in his address, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University KWASU, Malete, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, commended TETFUND for the support given to the university so far.
