Gov. Umahi, monarchs react to protest against airport construction in Ebonyi

Traditional rulers from two local government areas of Ebonyi State; Ezza South and Ezza North LGAs on Monday have disowned protesters who stormed the Ebonyi Government House to protest against the siting of an airport at Oruzor community of the state.

The monarchs led by the chairman of the Ebonyi state traditional rulers council, HRH Charles Mkpuma, said the protesters are enemies of progress and did not hail from Oruzor community.

The traditional rulers made this known during in a solidarity visit to the Governor which took place at the exco chambers of the Government House Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.

Mkpuma said the perpetrators and their sponsors will be fetched out and will pay for daring the decision of the state government to site airport in the approved community.

“Those protesting against the siting of airport in Oruzor community are not from Ezza clan. This is because no reasonable person can object tondevelopment no matter what. It is foolishness to do such,” he noted.

Governor David Umahi, while responding to the development, said work will commence at the said airport site by Wednesday next week.

He declared readiness to pay full compensation to the affected persons whose land will be used for the airport, assuring that he will equally relocate them to another place.
