Tragedy struck in Onitsha as two people confirmed dead in a trailer accident in Anambra State

Haruna Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed the incident to newsmen that four people had been hospitalised after the death of two.

He said the area had been cordoned off by security operatives, while the road had been cleared for vehicular movement.

The incident occurred on the Owerri/Onitsha road.

An eyewitness told newsmen that, “A 20 feet container slipped off a trailer and fell on two tricycles on Upper Iweka by Obodoukwu Road Junction, killing two people while four people were rushed to hospitals.

“It took the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer in charged of Okpoko Police Station, Mr Ibrahim Jafiru, official(s) of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and  Anambra State Traffic Agency to control the crowd and traffic.”

When newsmen visited the scene, vehicular movements on both sides of the road were halted while sympathizers, towing vehicles belonging to the police, FRSC, ASTA and other relevant groups were on the ground.

A construction firm, however, brought their equipment to assist in returning normalcy to the area at 3:00 p.m.
