How Presidency Reacted To Reports On Leah Sharibu’s Purported Death

The Presidency has released a statement concerning abducted aid workers whose “disturbing video” emerged, showing them being held hostage by Boko Haram fighters.

In a statement signed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the presidency have begun talks with the captors to ensuring that no harm is done to the captives.

The statement read: The Presidency has been briefed by the responsible government agency about the disturbing video showing our citizens, the humanitarian aid workers held captive.

The presidency has been given assurances that contact is being made and the captors are being talked to.

On Leah Sahribu, Mr Shehu noted that aside from the captured aid workers, there has been engagement with the insurgents to free her, a religious leader and all other abducted persons.

He said: Beside these aid workers, there are some others about whom this engagement is about-Leah Sharibu, a religious leader and all the others.

These discussions have been ongoing even before this time and what this latest incident has done is to bring urgency to the efforts that the secret service is making.

Government is making contacts, in the hope that the captors will see no reason to visit hardship or even cause harm on these innocent individuals.
