Weeks after UI attack, gunmen storm Uniuyo female hostel, steal money, others

Few weeks after unknown gunmen identified as armed robbers stormed the Obafemi Awolowo Female Hostel of the University of Ibadan and carted away valuable items of the students, sadly, such ugly incident has occurred at the University of Uyo, Town campus, in Akwa Ibom state.

The female hostel of the University of Uyo, Town campus in Akwa Ibom State was invaded by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Wednesday and stole undisclosed amounts of money and other valuable items.

Few days ago, some female students were attacked by unidentified persons in one of the hostels before this fresh attack in the W6 Hostel.

Newsmen learnt that these suspected robbers moved from one room to another forcefully collecting properties and carting away valuable items of helpess victims.

Students only sustained minor injuries in the course of escaping or resisting robbers and no life was lost, a source who prefers to be anonymous told Newsmen.

The source said, “Some hoodlums broke into the W6 Hostel at the University of Uyo, town campus around midnight when the students were sleeping.

“They stole property such as phones, laptops, jewellery and cash. No life was lost, but some of the affected students sustained minor injuries.

“We also learnt that some female students were attacked the previous day in one of the hostels.”

Spokesman of the Police in the state, Mr. Odiko Macdon confirmed the ugly incident and disclosed that Zaki Ahmed, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of policemen in all hostels.

While discussing with journalists, he said that the CP has held a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Eniefiok Essien, and the management with a view to finding a lasting solution to the frequent invasion of the hostels by armed robbers.
