Wizkid

Nigerian singer Wizkid has attained a new feat on Spotify, as the first African artist to hit eight million monthly listeners on the digital music service.

Wizkid knocked off the former holder of the record, Congolese rapper and singer, Maitre Gims, who had seven million monthly listeners on the platform. The Starboy Entertainment CEO, despite not having a single of his own this year, was still able to set this new record, following the series of music collaborations he had with other artistes.

The ‘Daddy Yo’ crooner’s fan base is obviously large and still growing in other parts of the world, his new record is definitely backed up by his major feature on Beyonce, Drake, DJ Spinall, Tiwa Savage, Larry Gaga, Kojo Funds and other musicians he assisted on their songs.

Recently, Wizkid teased a new single, ‘Ride It’ which featured Ty Dolla Sign. He also announced he’d be releasing his official new music of the year, ‘Joro’, produced by Northboi, before his next album, ‘Made In Lagos’.

In related news, just recently, Davido emerged the first African musician to have a video reach of 100 million views on music and video streaming platform, YouTube. Likewise, Burna Boy’s latest album, ‘African Giant’ made a bold statement on UK Charts.
