One killed, other injured by Taxi Driver in Akure

A middle aged man identified as Tunde was allegedly hit and killed by a taxi driver yet to be identified as at the time of reportage on Sunday night in Akure.

Newsmen learnt that the taxi driver had already hit another pedestrian in front of Total filling station along Ondo road at around 9pm.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital after the fatal road accident while police officers towed the damaged taxi with plate number SUA 203 XA to Fanibi police station. A bottle of alcohol drink was seen lying on the ground at the scene of the incident.

A spectator told newsmen that the taxi driver was coming from Adebowale area along Ondo road and was over speeding when he hit Tunde who wanted to cross to the other side of the road around TeeJay filling station.

He said “Tunde was quickly rushed to the hospital but we got a phone call from those who rushed him that he died before getting to the hospital.

The driver is obviously drunk and instead of him to wait, he tried to run away before hitting another person around Fanibi junction again.”

Reacting, Police Public Relations Officer,Ondo Command, Femi Joseph promised to call back as he had not been briefed about the incident.
