After fulfilling bail conditions, DSS explains why Sowore is still in detention

As Nigerians react due to the continued detention of publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore despite fulfilling his bail conditions yesterday, September 25th, the Department of State Services (DSS) has reacted on the issue.

In an interview with newsmen, the Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunnaya disclosed that the agency is yet to receive the Federal High court Abuja’s order granting Sowore bail.

“We have not received the court order. And his (Sowore’s) counsel is a very senior member of the bar and he knows the process to follow; this process has not been followed” Afunnaya said

Falana was at the DSS headquarters in Abuja yesterday to receive Sowore after the bail condition was fulfilled.

However, a social crusader and rights activist has accused the DSS Director General, Yusuf Bichi of promoting a legacy of impunity by refusing to release Sowore as the Department of State Services continues to detain Omoyele Sowore.

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered his release, directing the publisher of Sahara Reporters to deposit his passport at the court’s registry.
