Angry youths burn seized car as Customs kill three students, injure market women

Three students of Ojumo Community High School, Ihunbo have been allegedly killed, market women injured by men of the Nigeria Customs Service in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

WITHIN gathered that the students who were reportedly standing by the road side after school hours were hit by a vehicle driven by a customs officer who lost control while driving.

The incident occurred few metres close to Ihunbo market and some market women were injured too as the vehicle almost rammed into the market.

The vehicle seized from some suspected smugglers along Idiroko road was reportedly set ablazed by angry youths of the community as the Customs officers reportedly ran way for fear of being lynched.

While reacting to the sad incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun Customs, Aliyu Maiwada confirmed the incident.

I can confirm there is an incident that happened and our officers were involved and it’s very unfortunate that life is involved. But we are yet to confirm the details of what happened.

“However, the preliminary information is that our men were conveying a ‘tokunbo’ vehicle suspected to have been smuggled into the country; in which an okada rider carrying some students crossed their way. It was an accident. I cannot inform you about how many lives that were lost at the moment.”
