Tragedy struck in Delta community as two reportedly dead, five others severely injured in gas explosion

No fewer than two people have been reportedly dead and five others severely injured as gas exploded along Jigbale Street off Alegbo Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the tragic incident which burnt an entire building, rendering all the occupants homeless occured at night.

It was gathered that all the dead victims are teenagers who were asleep during the incident and lost their lives before they could be rescued.

According to a resident who prefers anonymity told newsmen the explosion occurred in one of the flats in the compound.

“I heard a loud noise believed to be gas cylinder explosion from one of the apartments.”

Properties worth several millions of naira, including certificates and other documents were destroyed by the fire.

It was learnt that three sympathizers, who dashed into the scene to help were also injured in the process of rescuing some of the occupants trapped in the building.

Mr. Henry James, one of the victims said he lost all he had worked for in his life to the fire.

He further added that only the clothes he wore at the time the incident occurred was left with him.

“l thank God that l survived. The fire burnt everything that l have in the house. This is me ooooooo,” he lamented.

James appealed to members of the public to support him and other victims of the incident to start life afresh.
