Ganduje orders closure of private rehabilitation centres

Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has directed immediate closure of rehabilitation centres in the state.

Recall that several illegal rehabilitation centres were uncovered in Kano state, where young men and women were subjected to inhuman treatment.

Meanwhile, the Kano state government has directed immediate closure of all private rehabilitation centres in the state.

The Kano state government also issued three -day ultimatum to parents of inmates across the centres to withdraw their children.

Chairman, technical committee on remodeling Almajiri education system in Kano, Dr. Mohammad Tahar Adamu , told reporters the Governor’s directive followed the interim report on its findings.

Dr. Mohammad explained that the order applied to all centres excluding Quranic and Islamiyya schools.

The committee had early shut down a private own reformatory centre in the city center where teenagers found chained and dehumanised under harsh environment.

” While receiving the interim report on the inspection and assessment of privately own reformatory centres by the technical committee on remodeling Almagiri education system in Kano, His Excellency has directed the immediate closure of all privately run reformatory centres in the state.

” It must however be emphasized that this proscription order applies to private reformation centers only and not Quranic and Islamiyya schools.

“To this end, parents are advised to collect their children in such private schools within three days. “.

Kano Ministry of Women Affairs told newsmen that government was not aware of existence of the activities of private Reformation centres.

Meanwhile, the Ganduje administration had promised to reopen Kiru centre to accommodate female inmates.
