Osun Govt closes secondary school as students and teachers engage in cutlass duel

The immediate closure of Baptist High School, Gbodofon in Osogbo has been ordered by the Osun State Government following the vandalization of school’s properties by some irate students of the school.

This order was issued by the Commissioner for Education, Mr Oladoyin Folorunsho while inspecting the school after some school properties were reportedly damaged by some students of the school.

Oladoyin who expressed displeasure over the misconduct of the students ordered that the case be thoroughly investigated so that the perpetrators of the act will be brought to book.

He said that the estimated cost of the damages should be determined as the concerned students will be made to pay to serve as a lesson to others.

According to reports, some students and teachers in the school engaged in a cutlass and sticks fight which sent both teachers and students run for their dear lives.

A student who doesn’t want her name mentioned said the fit cuffs started last week Wednesday when some unknown students stormed the school.

“We saw some students last week Wednesday in our school armed with machete and this made everyone run for their lives.

“Although, hardly will a month pass that we don’t experience something like this and whenever such occurs, some of the irate students usually lock our teachers in their staff room.

“Last week Friday, they stormed our school again and some bold teachers confronted them which in turn led to the fight between teachers and students.”

Some parents that spoke on the ugly incident said the same uniform being used by students in the state is the cause of the problem.

They said it is very difficult for teachers to identify their students since all students wear the same uniform.

They urged the state government to look into the same uniform in order to easily identify students and avoid mix up.
