Buhari, a Kaduna based man sues estranged wife for changing children’s school without permission

Nigeria Court

A Nigerian man identified as Yusuf Buhari has approached a Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State where he filed a lawsuit against his estranged wife, Hadiza Muhammad for changing the school of their two female children without his consent.

Mr Yusuf Buhari claimed that his estranged wife took his two female children to her parents’ house and changed their school from the one in which he had enrolled them without his consent as contained in the court papers filed by his counsel, Sani Shehu.

He asked the court to order her to take the children back to the school “in which their father enrolled them and also, to take the children back to their father’s house, as they still remained husband and wife.”

While defending the claims, the estranged wife through her counsel, Adam Hassan, told the court that Islamic laws permitted a woman to take her children with her wherever she was going.

“If she is taking her children with her to a safe place, not a long distance from their father, it is allowed by law; even though they had little misunderstanding, she is still his wife,” the counsel said

The judge, Murtala Nasir, after listening to both parties, adjourned the case till December 6.
