Corps member escapes death as tanker crashes in Anambra

Tragedy averted in Anambra community as a female National Youth Service Corps member who was dashing across the highway escapes death as a petrol tanker crashed into a drainage in a bid to avoid knocking her down.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the lone accident occurred at Upper Iweka in Onitsha, the capital of Anambra state.

While reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mr Andrew Kumapayi said that the tanker marked GGE 643 XE was on the Asaba bound lane but was not carrying product at the time of crash.

“Three people were involved with no death recorded but one person got injured. The petrol tanker lost control while trying to avoid hitting a female NYSC member trying to cross the road, he added.

Kumapayi further stressed that “the lady sustained injuries when she saw the movement of the vehicle and jumped into the gutter. She has been moved to a private hospital for treatment,”

The sector commander said there was no obstruction to vehicular traffic.
