Seven suspects arrested in Niger State for vandalizing railway track

No fewer than seven suspects have been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly involving in the vandalization of railway track.

This was contained in statement released by the Police Public Relations in the state, ASP Wasiu Abiodun.

The PPRO confirmed the incident and further disclosed that all the suspects confessed to the crime.

“On 27th February, 2020 at about 0400 hours, Police detectives attached to Katcha Division while on patrol along Badeggi Bida road intercepted one Toyota Canter with Reg. No. BNZ 143 XA loaded with 168 pieces of railway sleepers suspected to have been vandalized from railway track and five (5) suspects were arrested namely : 1. Babaya Mohammed aged 28 years ‘m’ of Hanchita village, Katcha LGA 2. Nasiru Mohammed aged 20 years ‘m’ of Jebba LGA Kwara State 3. Abdullahi Mohammed aged 20 years ‘m’ of kakani village, Dakingari LGA, Kebbi State 4. Zayanu Danmagaji aged 20 years ‘m’ of Zamfara State and 5. Yakubu Mohammed aged 20 years ‘m’ of Kakani Village Dakingari LGA, Kebbi State,” the statement reads.

“During interrogation, Babaya Mohamed confessed that he was contacted by one Bala Koko ‘m’ of Jebba LGA, Kwara State ( a scavenger) now at large to provide him with a rail track sleepers, hence, he vandalized the rail track as requested, the said Bala Koko gave one Nasiru Mohammed a total sum of one hundred and forty eight thousand naira (#148,000) to pay for the tracks. Abdullahi Mohammed ( a canter Driver) and two conductors namely Zayyanu Danmagaji and Yakubu Mohammed were contacted for the loading. All suspects confessed to the crime. Exhibits recovered include; one Canter truck, one hundred and sixty eight pieces of track sleepers. Case charged to court”
