Following the widespread of the deadly disease in Europe, the World Health Organization has warned that Europe has now become the “epicentre” of the world’s coronavirus pandemic.

This was disclosed by WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday while speaking at a news conference in Geneva.

Ghebreyesus noted out that the continent has reported more infections and deaths from COVID-19 than the combined rest of the world, apart from China.

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters that “more cases are now being reported every day in Europe, adding that “5,000 people have lost their lives, a tragic milestone.”

The pandemic’s global death toll has reached almost 5,000, while the global number of cases has surpassed 132,000, according to the UN’s health agency.

About 68,000 victims have recovered, according to Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking the virus.
