JUST IN: Nigeria Baptist Convention postpones convention over COVID-19

The Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) has announced postponement of its annual convention that attracts thousands of delegates.

The rotational convention was scheduled to hold at it’s international centre on Lagos-Ibadan expressway from April 18-23.

In a memo by its President, Rev Supo Ayokunle, the convention said the postponement was informed by ban on social and religious gatherings by the government.

He said: “In view of the widespread of the pandemic known as Coronavirus or COVID-19 in Nigeria and other nations of the world, it has become imperative to postpone this year’s Annual Nigerian Baptist Convention-in-Session till further notice.

” The Federal Government and other State Governments have placed ban on public gathering that is more than 50 for at least the next four weeks.

“As law abiding citizens, we need to obey the law. However, our physical preparations are still on-going while those who have not registered can still do so.

“Let us all continue to pray to God to show us mercy and stop this plague. He has done so before and he would do it again.

“Please adhere strictly to the rules of hygiene coming from our medical experts so as to keep you safe and equally stop further infection.”
