Security operatives disperse traders in Osun

Traders at the popular Owode market in Ede North Local Government of Osun State were dispersed by security operatives yesterday as part of measures to curb spread of COVID-19.

The Government of Osun state had earlier directed last Friday that weekly markets (one of which is Owode market suspended indefinitely).

According to report, traders flouted the order as they gathered for business, forcing the deployment of security personnel to disperse them.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Ede North, Mukaila Uthman who led government officials to the market disclosed that they got to the market about 6 am to monitor compliance.

According to Uthman, the team tried to educate and persuade traders on the need to adhere to government’s directive, but they rebuffed all entreaties.

Security personnel were invited to disperse the traders.
